STATE
Four states are known.
State 1
Signed with a butterfly, radiating beams of light, at upper left.
The composition is basically complete.
State 3
Fine drypoint and etched shading is added to the walls and shadows in both chapels; drypoint shading is added on the kneeling figure in the centre and the central pier; granular foul biting appears over and around the figures in the left chapel.
State 4
Fine horizontal, vertical and diagonal drypoint lines are added on the central pier; fine shading is added to the column at right and to the walls in the background, on either side of it.
The impression reproduced has additional pen and ink shading over and within the chapel at left and on the large central pier - mostly parallel vertical lines - as well as a few short vertical lines within the chapel at right.
