State 1
Signed with Beatrice Whistler's trefoil monogram 'BP' combined with James McNeill Whistler's butterfly, at left.
State 2
Patches of diagonal shading, possibly traces of an earlier composition, on the river above centre, have been partly rubbed down; several lines on the wall at lower right, probably the results of an accidental scrape, have been removed.
