The copper plate was originally wrapped in a sheet of paper sealed with red wax, and the title 'View from Chateaux Walls, Loche' [sic] was written by Beatrice Whistler (1857-1896) on this sheet. The copper plate was in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) who gave it to the University of Glasgow as part of the 'Beatrix Whistler Collection' in 1935. 4 The plate is not cancelled.
