PRINTING
Early impressions were printed in black ink on laid paper watermarked with, for instance, 'B/TH' in a decorative circle (); a coat of arms (); 'DE ERVEN D. BLAUW' (); Arms of Amsterdam (, , , ). In some cases the ink looks greyish, possibly because the lines are so lightly drawn (i.e.). At times the ink appears dark brown, possibly because it is on a pale buff paper (i.e. ), producing a misty, atmospheric effect.
