EXHIBITIONS

It was extremely rare and few exhibitions are recorded. One impression, exhibited by H. Wunderlich & Co. in New York in 1898, was bought by Bryan Lathrop (1844-1916), who lent it to the exhibition organised by the Caxton Club in Chicago in 1900 (). 13

After Whistler's death an impression was shown at the Grolier Club exhibition in New York in 1904 and in the Whistler Memorial Exhibition in London in 1905. 14

13: New York 1898 (cat. no. 243); Chicago 1900 (cat. no. 285).

14: New York 1904a (cat. no. 365); London Mem. 1905 (cat. no. 328).

SALES & COLLECTORS

An impression of what was then called 'Chateau St Germain', but was probably Château, Touraine, was sold by Whistler to H. Wunderlich & Co. on 6 April 1891 at £6.6.0. 15 Only one impression, the first proof, has been located, and it was bought by Bryan Lathrop (1844-1916) before 1900, from Wunderlich's (). It is now in the Art Institute of Chicago. The sole other impression recorded and reproduced by Edward Guthrie Kennedy (1849-1932) appears to have been damaged and has not been located ().
