Young Woman Standing dates from 1887 or 1888. The style of costume can be dated to 1887, but variations on this style could have been worn over a longer period. 1
The copper plate was close in size to Nude Woman Standing [332] and The Church - Brussels (Adoration) [340]. The first of these is difficult to date precisely but the second dates from 1887.
Howard Mansfield (1849-1938), who owned the sole impression of the drypoint (), grouped it with plates dating from 1887, such as Fish Women, Ostend [349]. 2 Mansfield's impression of Young Woman Standing was trimmed to the platemark and signed in graphite pencil on the tab with a butterfly that can be dated to between 1887 and 1889.
Edward Guthrie Kennedy (1849-1932) did not give dates in his catalogue but he grouped the drypoint with plates dating from the mid- to late 1870s, such as Girl Standing [152] and The Desk [129]. However, this was incorrect. 3
