Impressions taken from this plate (35) |
The plate has no maker's mark and is a different size from any other plate; it has a slight, 2mm, bevel, and the corners are not entirely square. The inscription of the publisher, Alfred Cadart (1828-1875), was presumably removed by Whistler before 1887, when he printed a few more impressions. He recorded the copper plate as being in his possession in 1887/1888. 11
11: GUW #13233.
It was bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), and cancelled posthumously with a diagonal line across the lower right corner. She gave it to the University of Glasgow in 1935.
