20 February 1894 Edward Guthrie Kennedy (1849-1932) wrote to ask Whistler, 'What are you doing or going to do with the Paris etchings? Can't you finish one or two plates? Or don't you care for them anymore?' 10 However, it was not until 1900 that Messrs Wunderlich recorded buying 'Balustrade, Luxemburg Gardens' for £8.8.0, and it is not absolutely certain that it was this etching. . 11
In 1909 Mansfield noted impressions as being owned by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) () and 'Parsons'. 12 The only other known impression was owned by Henry Harper Benedict (1844-1935), and later bequeathed by William P. Chapman, Jr to Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1957 ().
