The copper plate was owned by Mortimer Luddington Menpes (1860-1938), who printed an edition of 500 in 1904.
The plate has not been located. It was similar in size to several other plates, including two town scenes - Cottage Door
[252] and
St James's Park
[250]; and small figure studies -
Woman sleeping in a chair
[401] and
The Fur Tippet: Miss Lenoir
[365] - dating from about 1887 or 1888. It is also close in size to several etchings that date from 1888, including Market Women: Turkeys
[424], Theatre, Loches
[418], and Hôtel de la Promenade, Loches
[415].
