The copper plate of The Bridge has the maker's oval stamp: 'HUGHES & KIMBER (LIMITED) / MANUFACTURERS / LONDON E.C.' It is close in size to three other Venetian subjects, all from the same maker, Nocturne: Palaces
[200],
The Rialto
[199] and The Balcony
[202]. Although this was among the plates that Whistler brought from London in order to make the set of etchings for the Fine Art Society, it was not published by the F.A.S., but in the 'Second Venice Set' published by Messrs Dowdeswell and Thibaudeau in 1886.
The plate was cancelled with wide spaced, crossed diagonal lines across the image. It is now in the Art Institute of Chicago.
