STATE
Eight states are known.
State 3
Signed with a butterfly at lower left.
Dark shading is added on the warehouses, particularly those in the distance; diagonal shading is added on the nearest warehouse at lower right; shading is added on the hulls of the ships in the river at left; there is some foul biting on the water; more ships are added in the distance by the wharf to left of centre.
State 4
The barge and small boats near it at left centre have been mainly burnished out; the horizontal shading behind the ships has either faded or been removed.
Published in this state by the Fine Art Society, London, in 1879.
State 5
Horizontal drypoint shading is added above the ships; clouds are added above the big warehouses at right.
State 6
More drypoint clouds and shading are added in the sky at upper left; the drypoint at upper right is fading or has been rubbed down.
