Millbank is dated '1861' on the copper plate. The shadows suggest a time about mid-day, with the sun fairly high in the sky. Lochnan suggested it was done in the early Spring, before The Little Pool [79]. 1

This is one of a number of Thames views etched in 1861, including Vauxhall Bridge [75], Westminster Bridge in Progress [77], The Little Pool [79], Battersea Dawn (Cadogan Pier) [95] and Old Hungerford Bridge [76]. Four of these 1861 etchings - Millbank, The Little Pool, Early Morning, Battersea and Old Hungerford Bridge - were published in A Series of Sixteen Etchings of Scenes on the Thames (the 'Thames Set'), by Ellis & Green in 1871. Millbank was used to advertise the first exhibition of the 'Thames Set' in 1861. 2
