EXHIBITIONS

It was not exhibited in Whistler's life time. Howard Mansfield (1849-1938) lent an impression to the Whistler Memorial exhibition in Boston in 1904, and impressions were also shown at the Grolier Club in New York in 1904 and the London Memorial Exhibition in 1905. 12

SALES & COLLECTORS

On 19 May 1897 Whistler sold an impression - under the title 'Boulevard Bonnes Nouvelles' - to Siegfried Bing (1838-1905) for a fairly high price - £12.12.0. 13

13: Ledger, [19-29 May 1897], GUW #13034.

In 1900 he sold another impression - this time called 'Boulevard Poissonière, Paris' - to H. Wunderlich and Co. of New York, for slightly less - £10.10.0. 14

Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) bought an impression from Thomas Wilmer Dewing (1851-1938) in 1905 (Graphic with a link to impression #K4230103). Bryan Lathrop (1844-1916) owned another (Graphic with a link to impression #K4230102), which had certainly been handled by Wunderlich's (stock no. a 35407).

Another impression may have been sold by Whistler's sister-in-law, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), and was certainly handled by Colnaghi & Co. (stock nos. c3879 and c7456) before being acquired by Lessing Julius Rosenwald (1891-1971) (Graphic with a link to impression #K4230104).

14: Wunderlich's to Whistler, 'List of Prints, bought as per your memo: of July 20th 1900)', 16 April 1901, GUW #07330; stock number 34084.
