The copper plate bears the stamp of 'HUGHES & KIMBER / MANUFACTURERS/ RED LION SQUARE / FLEET STREET / LONDON'. This was Whistler's favourite supplier and exactly the same stamp is seen on several etchings made in connection with the 'Thames Set', including Thames Warehouses

It was published with the 'Thames Set' in 1871. It was cancelled with crossed diagonal lines.
The copper plate was bought by Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) in 1896 and bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art. 14
