SALES & COLLECTORS
Edward Guthrie Kennedy (1849-1932) incorporated this etching at the last moment in his catalogue as 25B. According to Kennedy: 'The only impression known was formerly owned by Mr Dennis Paul of Leicester, whose family presented it to the British Museum Print Room. A brief description of it appeared in the Print Collector's Quarterly for April, 1917, "Two Unpublished Whistlers," by Mr Campbell Dodgson.' Dodgson sent Kennedy a photograph and wrote: 'An undescribed and (I believe) quite unknown etching by Whistler has lately turned up, and has been generously presented by its owner to the British Museum. ... possibly you might also like to reproduce it as a supplementary illustration to your Grolier Club Whistler catalogue.' 8
8: Kennedy 1910 (cat. no. 25 1/2); Dodgson 1917 .
