This was a commission from a friend of William Heinemann (1863-1920) who has not been identified. Whistler wrote, 'The price I can't fix yet, - but I daresay it will not be more than ten or twelve guineas'. 23 That is, £10.10.0 or £12.12.0- which was a comparatively high price.
