TECHNIQUE
Lightly etched impressions of figures on a nearly empty beach, drawn with a minimum of outline and almost no shading, with minimal drypoint additions in the second state.
PRINTING
Impressions of this rare etching were printed in black ink on ivory (
) or off-white () laid paper with even, light tone. They were trimmed to the platemark and signed with a butterfly and 'imp' to show that Whistler had printed them.
