PRINTING

Only three impressions of Rue de Vannes, Paris have been located. They are printed in black ink on cream or buff Japanese paper, in each case, rather soiled and stained (, , ). One was trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed it (). One is trimmed but not signed ( ) and remained in Whistler's estate. And one was not trimmed at all: it is likely that this too had been in Whistler's estate and was sold by his exceutrix (). In other words, Whistler only signed one when he was ready to sell it.
