Flower Market, Brussels dates from 1887. Whistler was in Brussels in mid-September 1887. He wrote from the city to a friend: 'Where am I now? - well of all places - in Brussels! ... The place is simply lovely ... the work that I am doing is, I believe, far away beyond all that I have done before' 1
