Nude Model Stooping probably dates from late 1887 or early 1888. It is close in size to a number of etchings including The Fan 375 and Baby Pettigrew 374, which date from 1887 and several from 1888 including Three studies of women's heads 400. The butterfly signature is consistent with these dates.
Whistler sold an impression of what he called 'Stooping Figure'- probably this etching - in February 1888 to Thomas M. McLean (b. ca 1832). 1
