The copper plate is close in size to a number of plates dating from 1886-1888 including Chelsea Embankment 268, Model Stooping 362, Baby Pettigrew 374, Beatrice Whistler painting from a window, Bourges 399, Three studies of women's heads 400, and The Fan 375.

The plate was in Whistler's studio at his death and was bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), who gave it to the University of Glasgow in 1935. It was cancelled posthumously with a diagonal line across the lower left corner.
