STATE

Three states are known before cancellation.

State 1

Etching: K2580101
Signed with a butterfly at upper centre, between the flower pot and the window.
The composition is complete; there is a light area above the back of the woman bending, and two light areas to left of the man's leg.

State 2

Etching: K2580103
Fine horizontal shading is added above the man's head in the doorway; light diagonal drypoint lines, running from left to right (\\\), shade the lower part of the area to left of the man's leg; diagonal lines are added above and to right of the bending woman; light diagonal drypoint lines are added to the shadow above and between the two hanging portraits.

State 3

Etching: K2580204
Fine drypoint shading is added on the standing figure in the doorway and the seated man's arm and chest, at left; the box on which he sits is now fully shaded.

State 3 (cancelled)

Cancelled with one diagonal line.
