The copper plate was close in size to another large plate, of the same period, The Unsafe Tenement 018. It was published first in the 'French Set' in 1858.
Then in 1884 it was published by the Fine Art Society. According to Kennedy, 'Fifty impressions of this [3rd] state were printed by Whistler. The plate was then cancelled.' 9 It was cancelled with rough, widely spaced crossed diagonal lines.
The cancelled plate is now in the Toledo Museum of Art, Ohio. 10
