Temple Bar probably dates from November 1877. Whistler sold an impression of 'Temple Bar' on 24 November 1877. 1
The Leeds Mercury on 27 December 1877 referred to Whistler's etchings, and mentioned that 'The last scene of Temple Bar is certainly the most picturesque'. In 1878, in an article on 'English Etchings', H. Stewart Cundell commented: 'Mr Whistler, we are glad to learn, is resuming his etching, and among his most recent plates we may mention ... etchings of Temple Bar and Wych-street, which, when completed, will rank with his most masterly plates.' 2
