H. Wunderlich & Co. of New York bought one marked 'Chosen Proof' on 16 April 1889 for £10.10.10 (less 20 percent discount). 12 It was probably sold immediately on 27 May 1889 to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) (



On 18 July 1889 Whistler recorded that he had only one impression in stock, and he sold this, his last impression, to Roland F. Knoedler (1856-1932) two days later. 15
