TECHNIQUE

Bohemians is mainly etching with light drypoint shading. There is the mark of a vise, used to hold the plate, across the upper right corner.

PRINTING

There was a limited print-run. Three impressions were printed in black ink on ivory laid paper (Graphic with a link to impression #K4420106, Graphic with a link to impression #K4420102), possibly with a crowned 'GB' watermark (Graphic with a link to impression #K4420103), followed by two in dark brown ink on cream laid paper (Graphic with a link to impression #K4420105, Graphic with a link to impression #K4420204). All were trimmed to the platemark and signed on a tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
Whistler worked very lightly in pen on one impression (Graphic with a link to impression #K4420204), but did not carry out these alterations on the copper plate.
