TECHNIQUE
It is mainly etching, with a little drypoint shading on the urns at the top of the gate-pillars.
PRINTING
Only two impressions have been located, one inscribed 1st proof' and printed in black ink () and the next, inscribed '1st. State -' and printed in dark brown (), both on ivory wove paper. Judging by the etched butterfly signature, reproduced below, the etching was signed and printed in the 1890s, some years after the Whistler's honeymoon.
