TECHNIQUE
This is pure etching, drawn with broken outlines, hooked lines and short dashes and curves, and an irregular series of short lines for the clouds and cobbles. There is very little shading - a little on the wall above the lantern and a few touches on the distant building. There is no drypoint.
PRINTING
Although Whistler listed the impression sold to Wunderlich's in 1888 as 'first state', no second state is known. 8
Only two impressions of Petite Rue des Bouchers are recorded, of which one has been located. It is printed on ivory laid paper in black ink, with light plate tone at the bottom, wiped with distinct vertical strokes ().
