This is an etching, with just a small amount of drypoint shading added near the doorways.
PRINTING
There was a limited print-run. Impressions were printed on a variety of papers. One is in black ink on cream laid paper (
), another on ivory (darkened to buff) with the watermark of an Eagle with the Basel Crozier (
). Others are in dark brown ink on ivory laid paper (
) and fine cream laid paper watermarked 'D' (
). All are trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
