Nocturne: Furnace was similar in size to Doorway and Vine [191]; it has no plate stamp and may have been made for Whistler in Venice.
It was published by Messrs Dowdeswell and Alphonse Wyatt Thibaudeau (ca 1840- d.1892) with A Set of Twenty-six Etchings (the 'Second Venice Set') in 1886. The copper plate was cancelled in three stages, with diagonal lines, and crossed diagonal lines.
The plate is now in the Art Institute of Chicago. 7
