The copper plate bears the maker's oval stamp: 'HUGHES AND KIMBER / MANUFACTURERS / LONDON E.C.' It is close in size to A Lady at a Window [148], Tillie: A Model [113], The Piano [144] and London Bridge [172].
It was cancelled with widely spaced crossed diagonal lines. The cancelled copper plate was probably among plates bought at Whistler's bankruptcy sale by the Fine Art Society, London. It was published in an album of Cancelled Plates ('Cancelled Set') by The Fine Art Society in London in 1879.
The copper plate was probably among those acquired from Robert Dunthorne (b. ca 1851), by Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), in exchange for lithographs. 11 The plate was given by Miss Philip to the University of Glasgow in 1935. She also gave two cancelled impressions (Graphic with a link to impression #K1160302, Graphic with a link to impression #K1160303) to the University.

11: Note by R. Birnie Philip, inserted in the album, Hunterian Art Gallery.
