Two states are known before cancellation.

State 1

Impression: K0890102
Signed and date 'Whistler, 1863.' at lower right.

State 2

Impression: K0890204
Signed with a butterfly, added in dry point at lower right.
Some corrosion marks have been removed or have worn away, specifically to left of the figure in the left foreground and at centre right near the plate mark; two accidental left-right diagonal scratches (\\) extend down from the horses in front of the cart at right.
The butterfly, printing at first with some burr, eventually printed very faintly.

State 2 (cancelled)

Cancelled with a diagonal line.
