TECHNIQUE

Densely worked three- and four-way cross-hatching covers the background and encroaches on Annie's hair. Her face is defined by multiple outlines, while short strokes and flecks and cross-hatching create the shadows on her face. Light, wavy strokes indicate her hair. The books are drawn with longer lines, shading and zigzags, with the titles carefully written in script, the lines repeated to ensure their legibility.

PRINTING

There is only one known impression of the first and only state (Graphic with a link to impression #K0080101). It is printed in black ink on pale buff laid paper.
