The copper plate was probably among those cancelled at the time of Whistler's bankruptcy. It is slightly different in size from all other plates.
The cancelled plate was probably among those sold at Whistler's bankruptcy, and may have been considered for publication in 'Cancelled Set' by the Fine Art Society in 1879. Most of the published sets contain 57 etchings, except for the set now in the Yale University Art Gallery, which contains 76 prints, including, however, some from a later date.
The copper plate has not been located.
