Head of Whistler probably dates from 1887/1892.
The style of shading, and size of the copper plate, suggest this date. It is close in size to several etchings that date from 1887 including
The Abbey Jubilee [296] and
Children, Portsmouth [301]. Whistler's appearance suggests a slightly later date but that might just be because of the faint and scratchy nature of the light drypoint lines.
