The Market Place, Tours dates from September 1888. Beatrice and James Whistler visited the Loire Valley, France, during their honeymoon in the autumn of 1888 and visited Tours at some time between 15 and 27 September.
In Tours Whistler etched at least six plates, including Rue des Bons Enfants, Tours [392], Little Market Place, Tours [389] and The Hangman's House, Tours [393].
