The Little Mast dates from 1880, when Whistler was in Venice. He arrived in Venice in September 1879. He was active in Venice from October 1879 to October 1880 and was back in London in November 1880.
The Little Mast was actually printed by Whistler between 1880 and 1889. It was printed over several years for the 'First Venice Set', and cancelled in 1889.
