Whistler stayed at Speke Hall near Liverpool several times including January to March 1875. On 1 February 1875 he wrote from Speke:
'The etchings and drypoints are getting on famously - I have quite got back into my old delight in the work and think I shall have some pretty things to show you soon - ' 1
