Dieppe dates from 1885 or 1886. These dates are consistent with the butterfly signature. It probably dates from September 1885 when Whistler stayed with Walter Richard Sickert (1860-1942) and his wife at the Maison Goude, 21 rue de Sygogne, Dieppe.
It was first recorded by Frederick Wedmore (1844-1921) in 1886. 1
