SALES & COLLECTORS

Shortly before he died, Whistler sold an impression of 'Café Corazza - Paris' to the London print dealer Robert Dunthorne (b. ca 1851) for £8.8.0. 12 Dunthorne sold it in the following August to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) (Graphic with a link to impression #K4360102). Whistler bequeathed one to his sister-in-law Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958) who gave it to the University of Glasgow (Graphic with a link to impression #K4360103). It is likely that the other two impressions also came from Miss Birnie Philip. One was sold through Colnaghi's, London, to Margaret Selkirk Watson Parker (1867-1936) and bequeathed to the University of Michigan Art Museum (Graphic with a link to impression #K4360104). Finally one was acquired by Louis B. Dailey (1904-2000), and sold after his death through Sotheby's and Susan Schulman to Peter and Paula Lunder who gave it to Colby College Museum of Art, Maine (Graphic with a link to impression #K4360105).
