The copper plate has no maker's mark and is not similar in size to any other plate. It remained in Whistler's possession until his death and was bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958).
Since the plate was in good condition, she authorised Nathaniel Sparks (1880-1956) to print a small number of proofs in 1931. 10
