PRINTING
Notre-Dame, Bourges seems to be extremely rare. Only two impressions have been located but there were probably at least three printed. One impression is numbered '(No 3)' but this might be from a sales record rather than printing record (). It is printed in warm black ink on light-weight buff laid paper (possibly from a book, and darkened at the right edge). The other, marked 'Early Proof' by Whistler - which is meaningless since there are only a couple of proofs - was printed in dark brown ink on ivory laid paper (). Both are trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with Whistler's butterfly and 'imp.' to show that he printed them.
