TECHNIQUE
This is an etching, although there is a possibility that four or five left to right diagonal lines (\\\) at the centre of the open doorway may be drypoint.
PRINTING
Only a few impressions of Court of the Monastery of St Augustine, Bourges were printed, all in dark brown ink. One fine impression, as sharp and vivid as a pen drawing, was annotated '1st proof -' by Whistler; it was printed on ivory laid paper (). Another good impression, also on ivory laid paper, appears to be on a sheet taken from a book (). A third, a beautiful and restrained impression, was printed on thin cream laid paper (). They are trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with Whistler's butterfly and 'imp.' to show that he printed them.
