PRINTING
Three impressions are known, all printed in dark brown ink. One, annotated '1st Proof -', was printed on ivory laid paper (). Another, on cream Asian laid paper, is annotated '1st. State -' but since there was no second state this is not very helpful (). The third bears no inscription, and is on ivory laid paper (). All are trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler printed them.
