SALES & COLLECTORS
On 25 January 1889 the London art dealer Walter Dowdeswell (1858-1929) told Whistler that an impression of 'Chateau d'Amboise' submitted for approval to 'my client in the country' had been returned. 9 However, Whistler sold a 'first state' - probably - on 27 March 1889 to the Fine Art Society for £6.6.0 and possibly another on 21 May 1889 at the same price. 10 The first of these was later owned by Howard Mansfield (1849-1938).
