TECHNIQUE
Resting by the Stove is mostly etched, with minor drypoint shading added in the second state.
PRINTING
Resting by the Stove is very rare; only two impressions have been located. The sole impression of the first state was printed in black ink on ivory Japan paper (), and the second in dark brown on cream laid paper (), both with a very light surface tone, slightly darker at the bottom of the image. Both were trimmed to the platemark and signed on the tab with a butterfly and 'imp.' to show that Whistler had printed them.
