EXHIBITIONS
It was not exhibited in Whistler's lifetime, but was shown at the Grolier Club in New York in 1904 and at the Whistler Memorial Exhibition in London in 1905. 11

SALES & COLLECTORS
Whistler sold an impression on 6 April 1891 to H. Wunderlich & Co., New York, for £2.2.0 (); it was bought by Howard Mansfield (1849-1938). 12 The only other known impression remained in Whistler's studio until his death, and was bequeathed to Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958), who gave it to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919) on 19 July 1904 ().
