EXHIBITIONS
After Whistler's death an impression was lent to the comprehensive exhibition at the Grolier Club in New York in 1904. 12 No other exhibitions are known.

SALES & COLLECTORS
On 21 December 1887 Whistler sold an impression of 'The Hoop (Gray’s Inn)' to the London print dealer, Thomas M. McLean (b. ca 1832) for £8.8.0. 13

A few years later, in 1895, an impression was sold by the artist under the title 'Under trees - Gray's Inn', to H. Wunderlich & Co. for £6.6.0 (£5.0.0. after discount). 14 This, the only known impression of this etching, was bought from Wunderlich's by Albert Henry Wiggin (1868-1951) in 1919 for Boston Public Library ().
