TECHNIQUE
The plate was executed in pure etching.
PRINTING
Only a few impressions of After the Sale, Clothes Exchange, Houndsditch were printed. Most impressions are in black ink and one () in brown. Most are on laid paper, including sheets with a partial 'PRO PATRIA' watermark (, ), ivory laid paper with a crown watermark (), and buff laid paper with a coat of arms watermark (). All are trimmed to the platemark and signed by Whistler with a butterfly on the tab and 'imp.' to show that he had printed them.
