STATE
Three states are known before cancellation.
State 1
Signed with a butterfly near the left edge, below centre.
The composition is complete. The glass panels immediately below the horizontal framework are unshaded.
State 2
There are a number of drypoint additions: to the face and hat of the standing boy at centre front, to the shading above his head and between the figures above that shading, and to the torso of the man holding a piece of cloth, behind and to right of the boy.
State 3
The column at left is more heavily shaded with etched lines, and there is more vertical and diagonal shading on the framework above the columns; vertical drypoint lines are added along the upper row of glass panels; a number of curving vertical and diagonal marks at upper centre appear to be foul biting.
